TAG Heuer Collections

TAG Heuer’s major collections have very different identities. Monaco is known for its square case, Carrera for motorsport chronographs, Aquaracer for sports and diving watches, Formula 1 for colourful racing inspired designs and Connected for smartwatch technology.

Knowing the collection is only the first step. Individual references can still differ considerably in size, movement and construction.

Understanding Mechanical Movements

Mechanical watches use a mainspring and gear train rather than a battery. Automatic movements wind through the movement of the wearer’s wrist, while manual movements require winding through the crown.

TAG Heuer has used numerous mechanical calibres across its collections, including different chronograph and three hand architectures.

Chronographs Explained

A chronograph adds a timing function to a watch. Pushers normally start, stop and reset the chronograph while subdials record elapsed time.

Subdial placement can vary considerably between movements, making chronograph architecture an important detail when identifying individual TAG Heuer references.

Solargraph Technology

Solargraph models use light powered quartz technology. Light is converted into stored electrical energy, reducing the need for conventional battery replacement.

Solargraph appears in several modern TAG Heuer collections, including Aquaracer and Formula 1.

Case Materials and Finishing

TAG Heuer watches may use stainless steel, titanium, carbon based materials and other modern case constructions. Brushing, polishing and sandblasting can change the appearance of the same basic material significantly.

Why Reference Numbers Matter

Reference numbers help identify the exact configuration of a watch. Two models with similar names can use different cases, movements, dials or bracelets, so reference level research is more reliable than comparing collection names alone.
